Leap Day Abstract Nail Art

Press Pattern

On this day, I only post once every four years, so I put together the nail art I’ve wanted to do for so long. There are so many iterations of this type of abstract nail art on Pinterest that I don’t know who to cite as inspiration. You’ve seen me do abstract smudges and dots on this blog before, but now I’ve added some leaves and swirls.

You’d think abstract art like this would be quick, but it actually took a while because I thought a little too much about where I wanted to place each color blob and which color should be next to which. So it actually took me about an hour to do all ten nails, but I will mention that I moved pretty slowly. I wore this shimmer for two days, but I knew it would be epically matte, and I was right!

Here are all the colors I used! It’s a lot. And that’s why I have so many polishes. How many shades of yellow and orange do I need?!

  • Base: Morgan Taylor Barely Buff, 2 coats
  • Light yellow: Duri Cosmetics Sting Like a Bee
  • Medium yellow: Zoya Honey
  • Lighter Orange Yellow: Lechat Dare to Wear Felicity
  • A darker orange yellow: KBShimmer Oh My Gourd
  • Orange: Stella Chroma Bye Fall-icia
  • Green: OPI This is not Greenland
  • Light Blue: Stella Chroma Raking It In
  • Dark Blue: Jessica Cosmetics NY State of Mind

After getting my nails done, I realized that I really don’t need to apply any base color besides the base coat. But I like to think Morgan Taylor leaves some protection on my nails and hopefully keeps them stronger. I chose so many colors that I ended up covering most of my nail so there wasn’t that much negative space.

I know this color palette is a bit autumnal, but I love the shades of light yellow and light blue against the darker and dustier colors. It’s getting me ready for spring despite February having the most snow in the last two years. I think the leaf bits added some spring fun too.

I really like how this nail art turned out. This makes me so happy! See you in four years, Leap Day!

The products in the post were made available for an honest review.
